DISCOVER THE ART OF PAINTING

Hi, I'm Jessica, an artist, writer and historian, living and working in Oxford. Originally from Germany, I worked as a journalist for radio and television before moving to the United Kingdom in 2015, where in recent years I have worked as a writer and German language specialist.
I always had a creative streak for which I found an outlet in writing short stories, crafting and occasionally painting with acrylics. I started to fully rediscover my passion for painting in 2019. During the Covid pandemic painting became my main passion. Stuck at home with Long Covid over two years, painting large landscapes in acrylic helped me explore my love for nature and my creativity even when I lacked the energy to explore nature myself. My health slowly recovered, my obsession with painting stuck around.
I am currently working mainly in oils, but occasionally also go back to my original passion of painting with acrylics. Especially outside, for smaller works and when travelling, I also love using pastels. Sometimes I combine all these materials in one painting or add natural pigments and materials, leave gold or ink.
My paintings are deeply connected to my emotions. While I find inspiration in the natural world and real places – the seaside, woodlands, a little garden, Oxford – my art is often based on my own inner landscapes: a storm brewing in my head or the calm serenity that arises from focusing on the twisting branches of a tree. Like trees a lot of my paintings tell a hidden (hi)story.
